Visiting the capital of North Carolina anytime soon?
Are you flying in or out of RDU for business?
Here’s why we think AC Hotel is the
best Marriott hotel in Raleigh…
Every city, state, or place we visit – we make sure our hotel/resort experience is up to our standards.
Although we may appear to be a
hotel snobs – we’re really not.
[ food snobs, maybe . lol ]
But seriously though – if you’ve read our past stories you should know how we feel about quality service.
In my personal opinion, I will pay extra for luxury because I deserve it. Depending on the occasion I may splurge a bit – but nothing too crazy!
What matters to me most is the EXPERIENCE.
Because time is the one thing in life we can never get back.
We live in Charlotte, NC.
Raleigh is the capital of our state. Our children, Liyah, Sydney and Jason have always been curious about our state’s capital. We thought it would be fun to spend a day exploring Raleigh – and not have to rush home.
We searched for affordable, modern-luxury Marriot hotels and found AC Hotel Raleigh.
[ We are loyal Marriott Elite members ]
A friend of ours’ mentioned a new modern hotel that we should check out. He knows our style:)
When searching for the perfect hotel we consider:
as a top priority.
saves us time.
it’s only fair we know exactly what to expect when resting our heads.
HOTEL STYLE and HOSPITALITY –
when on vacation, there’s a specific way
I’d like to start my day—aesthetics and atmosphere are 2 big contributors.
we like having options.
AC HOTELS by Marriott
[ Raleigh North Hills ] is a unique European inspired hotel surrounded by shops and restaurants in a retail park – off highway 440, about 7 miles from RDU International Airport.
[ great if you’ve got an early flight to catch ]
Being in the heart of Triangle region’s prime dining and entertainment; this location is also minutes away from PNC arena and North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
For shopping convenience,
Crabtree Mall is less than 10 miles down the street.
Now let’s talk about this stylish hotel.
As we pull up to check in – we were wowed by the architecture of this modern district.
Clifton at the concierge desk was such a sweetheart. We always appreciate a company’s representative who knows their “stuff”. It makes it so much easier for first-time customers to relax in an unfamiliar space.
We arrived hungry. [ what’s new?! ] As a courtesy – Marriott Elite members are given a food or drink voucher to use at the snack bar or at the hotel’s bar as a welcome gift.
LEVEL 7 ROOFTOP BAR
The interior design fits the young ambience.
Weather and panoramic view was so lovely we spent most of our day outside on the sofa enjoying summer’s fresh air. Can you blame us?
Jeremy seems to be in his own world – probably thinking about work. [ He breathes numbers ]
Wait a minute — is it okay to sit at the bar with your Dad?! Of course it is! The bartenders and servers introduced us to some delicious tapas and crafted non-alcoholic beverages:)
That’s Danny behind the bar. He can get really creative with cocktails.
No child of ours will grow up saying they weren’t allowed to go to the bar with their parents!
“Cherished are father and son moments over a few drinks” – Lol.
Before the day ended, we explored the hotel.
Directly across the street of the hotel lobby is The Capital Grille, and two steps to the left of us is CO, an upscale Asian fusion restaurant.
There are boutiques, shops and restaurants along the walkways of these urban streets. How exciting and convenient – everything we need, is within walking distance!
Our son Jason enjoys walking over riding because he says it gives him more time with people he loves.
Well the feeling is mutual, Jason:)
Walking around and exploring is a fun exercise we enjoy as a family.
Convenience is always a plus. Even if we’ve got more than what we need – knowing there are options near by gives us a sense of security.
Between North Hills, Market and Park, there are plenty of good eats, both indoor & outdoor, grocery stores, a spa, and for entertainment with family and friends – there’s even bowling and a cinema.
If you’re active like us – you will be satisfied right in the center of Midtown Park. There is so much space on the greenway!
We all felt the need to run free, scream and cartwheel across the lawn!
[ yep, we were the crazy family you saw outside flipping around that day ]
We have no shame in creating our own recreation!
Did you think I was lying when I said “cartwheels” ?
Freedom begins in the middle of Midtown Park 🙂
AC HOTEL KING GUEST ROOM
The 355 sq ft. King Room with Sofa was comfortable for our family of five. Lucky for us, we are
petite – sized – people:) Three on the bed and two on the sofa.
Expect a minimal atmosphere in these European style rooms.
The simplicity of a home-style bed with crisp white linen was very comforting – as it reminds us of our own bed.
The standard full size pull-out sofa serves its purpose very well for a 15yr old teenager and 9yr old child.
Hang a 55” LCD TV on the wall and these-tiny-three will be in another dimension! lol
[ story of every mom’s life ]
There’s just something about a clean room that puts your mind at ease.
Maybe the “mess” we came in with got swept under the rug or absorbed through the hardwood floors:)
Jeremy and I are a big fan of hardwood floors. Makes everything feel squeaky clean!
Check out the view from our room. Wish I had a wider lens to capture the entire view!
Honestly, this is 100% my husband Jeremy’s Style. Modern, practical, relaxing and quiet.
It doesn’t take much for him to fall asleep. Lol.
I am easily sold by the serene sounds of the shower room.
Singing with my mouth open beneath the rainforest shower head is where you’ll find me.
Our overall experience was beyond what we expected. For an affordable luxury hotel –
It is definitely worth every dime.
Not a full service hotel so there’s no swimming pool or hot tub, but there is a nice fitness center.
The European breakfast buffet serves a variety of croissants, pastries and other Euro – inspired healthy goodies.
The parking deck across the street through the business building offers complimentary parking.
However, it’s a 5-10 minute walk.
No shuttle to airport – but we’ve checked on other hotels that offered – but the shuttles were scheduled at random hours – we feel that it is better to catch a Lyft or Uber.
Valet parking is available also. Check with with hotel prior to booking.
Other Marriott hotels within the same airport distance was okay, but decor was dated. So none matched our criteria.
Thank you for reading our story. There are plenty of hotels in every city. The hardest part is finding one that best suits your lifestyle.
We prefer Modern-Luxury hotels because it stimulates our excitement.
We hope our personal experience makes it easier for you with your hotel decision.
Either way, enjoy your stay!
We want to send a special Thank you to AC Hotel Raleigh North Hills
management and staff for extending their hospitality. Thanks to you – AC Hotel will be our designated hotel destination in Raleigh, NC.
See you again soon!
